Hello all,
It's been a couple weeks since I have had the time to sit down and write a post! I apologize! But as I'm sure everyone understands, life kind of just gets in the way sometimes.
The last couple of weeks have been great, just really busy. Between family outings, weddings, brandings and work, Taylor and I have been going non-stop.
The calving season has really slowed in Promontory. Not as many calves are hitting the ground as they were back in March and April, so that means that it's time to constantly check water on the mountain and fix fence. A job that I am sure any rancher will tell you is a necessary evil that never quits.
Just like anything in the ranch life though, as soon as one thing begins to slow down, another picks up just as quickly. Now that most of the calves in Promontory have been branded and pushed on the mountain, it means that there is more time to help friends out with their brandings. (Taylor's favorite time of year) They help at least once a week with someone else's branding, and let me tell you, that does not hurt his feelings at all!
Along with all of this, Taylor has been riding young horses for people. He loves to do it and is really good at is as well. It's also fun for me to watch because he makes it look so easy.
While he is training these horses, he's also been teaching me to ride better. And it's been fun! But definitely more difficult than I would have imagined, because once again, he makes it look so easy. I didn't grow up riding horses, so he's basically having to take me from square one. (Bless his heart for being so patient) It isn't as easy as experienced riders make it look! Also, bless Slic's patient heart... I am almost positive that he dreads having me ride him because I am so inexperienced. But thank the heavens for patient horses and good teachers. One day, hopefully sometime this summer, I will post something about this along the lines of, "I can finally lope a circle and not look like a complete jack a**!" (Hopefully....)
This last Wednesday, Taylor was riding the palomino colt. He's 3 years old, pretty quiet and gorgeous. Taylor got on him the day before and he got him to lope some circles and Taylor fell in love. "He rides so smooth!" So after some ground work, he got on and was trotting him around the arena and went to kick him into a lope. Well, for a second he did really good! Then something flipped and the yellow horse went to bucking. But good thing he didn't buck too hard and that this wasn't Taylor's first rodeo (pun intended 😉). They stuck it out with no harm to horse or rider.
Of course being the wife, it kind of scared me just for the simple fact I didn't want to have to make a trip to the ER. But Taylor assured me, "He'd have to buck a whole lot harder than that for me to come off and get hurt, Abb. Don't worry about it." So I sighed and said alright. Life of being married to a buckaroo entails knowing they tend to downplay the dangerous parts of their job or hobbies to make us feel better.
These pictures are from that night and surprisingly turned out really cool for being taken with my iPhone. I got a nice camera for my birthday from Taylor, but I tend to forget it at home and miss these fun things. But oh well, I was happy enough to capture some moments.
Thanks again for following us along on our eventful life. We definitely have a good time in everything we do and I'm so grateful to be married to this guy, my best friend!
With Love,
Abbie
